Righteous

The number of times that we see the word righteous and righteousness in the Bible tells us that it must be important.

The word tsaddek, translated righteousness in the Old Testament alone appears in several forms over 500 times[1] and is also translated lawful, just, justify and justice. It is even translated rights. Since the Bible only mentions religion 5 times and government, law, rights and justice over a thousand times, and tells story after story of oppressive governments, and setting people free from those governments, from Cain to Nimrod and Pharaoh's Egypt, the Bible is hardly limited to the topic of religion.

There is another word translated right and righteous which appears over a hundred times[2] in the Bible and comes from the word רשׁי yashar meaning "to be right, be straight, be level, be upright, be just, be lawful".

Even the words we see translated "equity" like meyshar[3] with an added Hebrew letter Mem suggesting the flow of righteousness and yosher [4] both from yashar and [5] in the Bible are merely forms of righteousness.

So the topic of what righteousness means may be more important than we may think at first and certainly more important than our opinion about God. In fact our opinion about God and religion must coincide with God's opinion of what is righteousness.

New Testament

In the New Testament we see dikaios translated righteous 41 times, but just 33 times. It is also translated right.[6] And as a verb it appears justify in the sense "to be freed".[7]

To understand the word righteousness we may need to answer some other questions first.

Some Questions

More Questions

To find the answers we must seek and strive to do what Jesus said the way He said to do it... Including attending to the Weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith which include caring for the needs of our neighbors, the widows and orphans of our society through Pure Religion in matters of health, education, and welfare. We are NOT to do so by the Covetous Practices of modern governments.

The Way of Christ was not like the way of the world, nor the governments of the gentiles who depend on benefactors who exercise authority. Christ's ministers and true Christians do not depend upon systems of social welfare that force the contributions of the people like the corban of the Pharisees which made the word of God to none effect. Many people have been deceived to go the way of Balaam and the Nicolaitan and out of The Way of Christ.

The Christian conflict of the first century Church appointed by Christ was because they would not apply to the fathers of the earth for benefits but instead relied upon a voluntary network providing a daily ministration to the needy of society through Faith, Hope, and Charity by way of freewill offerings of the people, for the people, and by the people through the perfect law of liberty in Free Assemblies according to the ancient pattern of Tuns or Tens.

The modern Christians are in need of repentance.

The word righteousness appears over 300 times in the Bible. In the Old Testament we see the word tsedaqah הקדצ translated righteousness 128 times and justice 15 times. It is also translated right 9 times and righteous acts or righteously 4 times and once it appears as moderately. [9]

In the New Testament we see dikaiosune δικαιοσύνη \@dik-ah-yos-oo’-nay\@ with the Strong's number 1343 from 1342; n f translated righteousness 92 times and defined 1) in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God

1a) the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God
1b) integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking, feeling, and acting

Without the letter Hey it appears as tsedeq קדצ righteousness 77 times, just 11, justice 10, righteous 8, righteously 3, right 3, righteous cause once.[10] [11]

It is defined as "in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be". What is the way but the way of righteousness. That means we do not force people to give us what we want nor would we covet their goods. We do not still, murder or betray one another.

Some people think because Paul said that we are saved by faith that there is nothing we need to do. Works are the evidence of faith so if we are being unrighteous then our works prove that we have no faith.
