V1 "great multitudes followed" Yet He seemed to be alone with the leper. |
V2 The "leper and worshipped him" by saying Lord (Kyrie).[1] |
V3 He "Touched" a leper. |
V4 "thou tell no man" but the priests? |
First, there was not a bunch of people surrounding Jesus while he walked. What does it mean to follow? |
The term prospherō (προσένεγκον) which we see as "offer"[2] in Matthew 8: 4 only appears in this one verse and is composed of two words that specifically means to bring or present in order that "I make publicly known" (pheró). He was to do this in person to the priests. |
The word we see as "gift" [3] dṓron is a neuter noun derived from didōmi [4] meaning "to give'. |
The term dṓron[3] is not just a "gift" or sacrifice given but is a term focusing on "the free nature of the gift," or something "uncaused" specifically "not coerced". |
This was in accordance with Moses' words in Leviticus 14:10; 21-22), but the purpose of getting the acceptance of the priest who sat in the seat of Moses before they knew Jesus was the healer of this leprosy. |
V9 "I am a man under authority,[5](exousian)[6] (I appoint tassomeno)[7] having soldiers under me..." |
Jesus would eventually say He will take the kingdom from the Pharisees. We see that in Matthew 21:43 "Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." |
Jesus spells out the reason for this Matthew 23:2 "Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers."[8] |
Jesus was clear that we should call no man upon earth Father at a time when the Patronus of Rome provided free bread for the masses at the table of benefactors who exercise authority like Caesar, Nimrod, Pharaoh, FDR, LBJ, and of course the system of Corban as set up by ,Herod and the Pharisees. |
John the Baptist, Jesus the Christ, Paul the Apostle, Peter, James, the Gospel of the Kingdom taught that we should live by Charity and pure Religion and not the covetous practices of legal charity. |
Kingdom of Heaven |
Matthew uses "kingdom of Heaven" in verse 11. But in Luke 13:29 we see a similar quote about being "thrust" out but Luke uses the "Kingdom of God". |
And the children of the kingdom, "kingdom of Heaven", "shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." |
Both these verses should be equated with the verse in Matthew 21:43 "Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." In both cases cast and thrust are from the same Greek word ekballo.[9] |
The fulfillment of this prophecy is seen in numerous verses from the events of casting out the moneychangers to John 19:15 "But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar." |
Everyone has the choice to live by force through the wages of unrighteousness or seek to live by righteousness through faith hope and charity like Abraham. Hebrews 11:8 "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: |
V17 Isaiah 53 |
In verses 18 to 22 Jesus warns about making excuses. |
The modern Christian says they have faith but do not live by faith. |
Questions |
Why was Jesus keeping miracles a secret? |
But why "shew thyself to the priest"? |
Why are children of the kingdom cast out? V12 |
How are children of the kingdom put out? |
How do you cast out devils? |
Luke 11:20 "But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth." |
Who today are the benefactors who exercise authority? |
What covetous practices makes the word of to none effect? |
How does it make you merchandise and curse children and entangled you again in the yoke of the bondage of Egypt? |
Jesus Cleanses a Leper
[1] When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
[2] And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
[3] And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
[4] And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift[10] that Moses commanded,[11] for a testimony unto them.
The Faith of a Centurion
[5] And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
[6] And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
[7] And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him
[8] The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
[9] For I am a man under authority (exousian),[5] (I appoint tassomeno)[7] having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
[10] When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
[11] And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
[12] But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness:[12] there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.[13]
[13] And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Jesus Heals Many
[14] And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
[15] And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
[16] When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
[17] That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
The Cost of Following Jesus
[18] Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
[19] And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
[20] And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
[21] And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
[22] But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
Jesus Calms a Storm
[23] And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
[24] And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
[25] And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
[26] And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?[14] Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
[27] But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
[28] And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils[15], coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
[29] And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
[30] And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
[31] So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
Into swine
[32] And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
[33] And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
[34] And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.
