Was there a failure of capitalism?
What is Capitalism?
- "Capitalism is an economic system in which capital assets are privately owned and goods and services are produced for profit in a market economy." [1]
Capital is defined as "wealth in the form of money or other assets owned by a person or organization or available or contributed for a particular purpose such as starting a company or investing."
There is a lot of things we call money but they may not actually qualify as money or assets. Assets use to be defined as "Goods or estate of a deceased person, sufficient to pay the debts of the deceased."
The move away from "money" toward "legal tender" was a move away from the essential elements of Capitalism. Legal tender is a legal offer in place of payment of debt and does not lawfully pay a debt. Although it may legally discharge debt, the tender or offer does not pay the debt at law. “There is a distinction between a debt discharged and one paid. When discharged the debt still exists, though divested of its character as a legal obligation during the operation of the discharge. Something of the original vitality of the debt continues to exist…”.[2]
Where does this debt continue?
Stanek vs White goes on to say, “…which may be transferred, even though the transferee takes it subject to its disability incident to the discharge. The fact that it carries something which may be a consideration for a new promise to pay, so as to make an otherwise worthless promise a legal obligation, makes it the subject of transfer by assignment”. [3]
There are long term repercussions and hidden shift within society concerning what we call "legal title". Such titles do not include true and actual ownership, the Beneficial interest nor profit and therefore is no longer private.[4] This was all a part of a shift away from "an economic system in which capital assets are privately owned and goods and services are produced for profit in a market economy."
Contributing to that shift was the redefining of basic terms. In Websters 1828 dictionary Capital was defined as "stock, is the sum of money or stock which a merchant, banker or manufacturer employs in his business; either the original stock, or that stock augmented. Also, the sum of money or stock which each partner contributes to the joint fund or stock of the partnership; also, the common fund or stock of the company, whether incorporated or not."
But also at that time money was defined as "Coin; stamped metal; any piece of metal, usually gold, silver or copper, stamped by public authority, and used as the medium of commerce. We sometimes give the name of money to other coined metals, and to any other material which rude nations use a medium of trade. But among modern commercial nations, gold, silver and copper are the only metals used for this purpose. Gold and silver, containing great value in small compass, and being therefore of easy conveyance, and being also durable and little liable to diminution by use, are the most convenient metals for coin or money which is the representative of commodities of all kinds, of lands, and of every thing that is capable of being transferred in commerce."
There was some secondary reference of "Bank notes or bills of credit issued by authority" but only if they are "exchangeable for coin or redeemable" and they are only "called money"[5]

Industry and the life style of Americans grew under the idea that Democracy was not a good thing and remnants of capitalism were still intact:
- “DEMOCRACY: A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any form of direct expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic - negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it is based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard for consequences. Results in demagogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy.” 1928 The United States Army Training Manual
This country and its people moved from the Republic into the paternal arms of the United States a democracy within a republic[6] began the process of debt and decline under a redefinition of democracy by June 1952:
- “Meaning of democracy: Because the United States is a democracy, the majority of the people decide how our government will be organized and run - and that includes the Army, Navy and Air Force. The people do this by electing representatives, and these men and women carry out the wishes of the people.”[7]
So the real failure of the people was the idea that it was okay to force one class of citizen to give up what they earned so that another could enjoy the fruits of another's labor. This single act of society and willingness to justify that covetousness of the people altered the soul of society.
The acceptance of the immoral premises that forcing your neighbor to give up what he or she produced undermined no only the natural drive to produce but the very institution where production begins, the family.
The very acceptance of the idea that force is better for the health of society than charity and hope undermines the compassion of the very heart of society. The relief from consequences of slothful approach by forcing burdens upon the industrious has long range consequences to corrupt the natural drive of society from which society seldom recovers.
The issue is debated but the understanding is only for those who see the whole truth. Those who are self righteous and or covetous cannot see that their Welfare undermine the very fabric of society any more than the Pharisees could see that their Corban made the word of God to none effect.
Thomas Sowell argues that the Welfare Type based on force actually undermines the natural incentive of society which becomes more dependent upon the handouts. While the woman talks about expectation built in about the quality of life and the quality of jobs and income one expects in return. Who built this expectation in and why is it to be provided another's expense?
If someone wishes to subsidies the expectation of others they may have that right but they should do it with their own money and not that which they take from others.
One problem is that premise that someone should get something for nothing like the "ill equipped employees" working for salaries as social workers when they are not adequately trained and maintain poor or low skills is just another example of the trap and snare[8] of the soul such welfare produces.
The idea that the alternatives are only two, get a job or be subsidized by government is the bases of a big lie. People did help one another for centuries and it is the fabric of charity woven in the lives of the people that makes society strong and binds it in way that strengthens the poor.[9]
It is true that the poor you will have you always. The amount of poor may change. There is a responsibility and duty to help your fellow man but it is only help if you are strengthen the poor.
The methods you use to aid and strengthen those in need is in truth your religion.
