Ruben's painting of the beloved disciple. The Gospel of John is a uniquely written scripture from the "Johannine" society.
Comments
V1 The wisdom of the parable of the vine and the branches is said to be "undiscoverable" by biblical commentaries. "Many guesses have been made"[1] And understanding the nature of a Vinyard and the purpose and process of pruning is essential. But understanding who and what is the vine[2] (repeated in V5) and that the Father is the "husbandman" is more important.
V3 The logos was spoken[3] by Christ through spirit.
V4 The Holy Spirit must abide in the vine; in heart and mind. V6 Being cast forth as a branch into the fire, and they are burned is about being cast into strange fire where people devour one another.
That strange fire is the social welfare of the State run by men who exercise authority one over the other.[4]
Their tables of welfare are a snare and a trap that makes men merchandise and will curse children returning them to the bondage of Egypt.
What is the differences between the Father of Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of Christians the Father of Caesar as the Son of God and Savior of Rome And was their conflict. Is it the means and method, what they doeth.
At the core of that conflict was social welfare systems based on love[5], charity, and hope and another system of the welfare state that functions through force of men who exercise authority that impose the contributions through fear and fealty.
Only a system that functions by voluntary fervent charity through the individual choice of love will produce fruit while systems of legal charity through forced contributions makes the word of God to none effect.
An appetite of for the dainties of rulers through the covetous practices of Benefactors who exercising authority degenerated the masses and debilitated the fruit bearing capacity of society because it not only violated the Ten Commandments but was the antitheses of abiding in His love.
Christ commanded that His ministers require the people gather in networked assemblies of symposium.to care for one another through charity alone which is defining what love truly is.
The tables of the world are not only a snare but will make the people merchandise and curse children, return them to the bondage of Egypt.
Questions
Are you coveting your neighbors' goods through rulers?[4]
Are you practicing Pure Religion or the public religion that Paul and David said were the welfare tables that are a snare and a trap?
Is the tasting of these dainties and benefits the fornication[6] with the harlot Proverbs and Paul said was idolatry?[7]
Where is your daily ministration?
Is your social safety net based on force, fear, and Fealty through the covetous practices of the rulers of the world or is it through faith, hope, and charity which is love of the kingdom of God and His righteousness?

Vine and husbandman

1 ¶ I am the true vine,[2] and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh[8] away:[9] and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word[10] which I have spoken unto you.[3]

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I Am the True Vine

5 I am the vine,[2] ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

The Father honored

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.‭

9 ¶ As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.[5]

If you keep

10 If ye keep my commandments[11], ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments[11], and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

The sacrifice of love

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Chosen and commanded

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

The Hatred of the World

18 ¶ If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying,[10] they will keep yours also.

21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake

No place to hide

22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

Spirit of the Father

26 ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

It is thus distinct from ~φιλία~, \@friendship\@ (#Jas 4:4 only), ~στοργη~, \@natural affection\@ (in the NT only in its compounds, v. s. ~ἄστοργος~ 794) and ~ερως~ \@sexual love,\@ which is not used in the NT, in its place being taken by ~επιηυμια~ 1939.
  6. Fornication, adultery and idolatry
Colossians 3:5 "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:"
Ephesians 5:5 "For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."
1 Corinthians 5:10 "Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."
Psalms 106:38 And shed innocent blood, [even] the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.
    Ezekiel 16:36 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them;

Proverbs 20:16 Take his garment that is surety [for] a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
  7. Covetousness is idolatry
Colossians 3:5 "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:"

  8. Kingdom Taken
Matthew 2:6 "And thou Bethlehem, [in] the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor(2233), that shall rule my people Israel."
Matthew 9:16  "No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.  17  Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved." Jesus did not just reform the kingdom.
Matthew 21:43 "Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." Jesus would take it as priest and king.
Luke 13:9 "And if it bear fruit, [well]: and if not, [then] after that thou shalt cut it down." The Corbans of the world were covetous practices
John 19:15...19 "But they cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar." The kingdom taken by the words of their own mouth.
