According the Webster's 1823 Dictionary; Covetous means; Inordinately desirous; excessively eager to obtain and possess; directed to money or goods, avaricious; in a good sense; as covetous of wisdom, virtue or learning.

Exodus 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness;^[1] and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
