Calendar psychosis

I have never fully pursued the Calendar issue.

Calendars fall into three types, lunisolar, solar and lunar, besides calendars with "years" of fixed length, with no intercalation. Most pre-modern calendars are lunisolar. The Islamic and some Buddhist calendars are lunar, while most modern calendars are solar, based on either the Julian or the Gregorian calendars.

There can be sub-types like the Sidereal solar calendars that also uses the stars and constellations of the Zodiac.

When the sun is reckoned with the equinox and the crossing of the celestial equator the seasons are synchronized with the declination of the sun. That calendar is called a tropical solar calendar.

Gregorian, Julian, Coptic calendars fall in this category. A typical lunisolar calendar has a year made up of a whole number of lunar months, it can't indicate the position of Earth on its revolution around the sun as well as a pure solar calendar can.

The Islamic calendar is a purely lunar calendar and some Jews like the Pharisees used lunar calendars. Today some Christians and of course messianic Jews are beginning to use the Lunar calendar. It sets them a part and gives them a sense of identity and a feeling of separation from the world.

The truth early Israel used all these calendars. They were great navigators as the sea kings but to determine feats they used the Lunar calendar so they would have the benefit of a full moon at the festivals.

So why do people latch on to odd calendars?

psychosis is from the Greek word psukhōsis ‘animation,’ from psukhoun ‘give life to,’ frompsukhē ‘soul, mind.’

It is defined as "a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality."

People often unmoor the purpose of what God was telling us through Moses and Jesus so that they may feel justified in the practice of some ritual and avoid the burden of seeking true righteousness.

They may be simply ignorant of the real purpose of these rituals and ceremonies but when they hear about the real Corban before the Pharisees twisted it, understand why there were Freewill offerings and a Daily ministration and what and how the governments of God fed the sheep of God it should awaken them to that true purpose.

The only reason they used a lunar calendar was to help the people gather on feast days for the purposes of establishing and renewing a network of social charity that provided a daily ministration throughout the nation.

All these rituals had a purpose that provided for society in a certain way Even the Sabbath was not a day as much as it was a way...

One Hebrew calendar is said to be a combined solar/lunar calendar, in that it strives to have its years coincide with the tropical year and its months coincide with the synodic months. This is a complicated goal, and the rules for the Hebrew calendar are correspondingly complex.

Some of these rules were set down by the Sanhedrin president Hillel II in approximately AD 359 but the original details of his calendar conclusions are uncertain. The question of what day it is or which calendar to use has plagued man more than the catastrophic events of his known and unknown history.

Besides the era of Noah's flood there is evidence that around the eighth century BC something happened that affected the measurement of times and seasons. Something was changing the relationship of the earth and the heavens that forced men to rethink their calendars.

  • "Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain." Galatians 4:8-11

Whenever people speak of the calendars of men I am afraid for them.

Why is your calendar so important?

Men may say they seek to know the calendar of God but it is often their opinion that is worshiped and to the God of creation.

Why is it not their walk with the Holy Spirit and the will of God not foremost in their lives?

Do you think there is anything that you do in your flesh that justifies you in itself.

To put your faith in your ability to calculate the days of God or His will by the counting of days is vanity. To put the opinions of men about how to count the days of the heavens from the earth is idolatry.

The calendar is a tool but giving and forgiving is a talent granted by God Himself. Do not neglect the talent of the LORD in search for the tools of men.

If you be observers of days, and months, and times, and years do not let it tear you apart or divide you as a people but only use it so that you may come together as you walk with the leading of the spirit. Take no pride in your calculations by moon or sun or the stars but seek to know God in your hearts and minds by walking in the service and forgiveness of Christ Jesus.
