  • "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire:" Matthew 3:11

How do we repent?

How do you renew your mind?

How do you move toward the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire"?

Could you use some help?

Liberty by the numbers. Step by Steps...

The original twelve steps as published by Alcoholics Anonymous:[1] founded in Akron, Ohio on August 11, 1938 by Bill Wilson has had value to millions of people for almost a century in the overcoming of addictions. Instead of just telling people to stop drinking he set up step by step approach to obtain and maintain a culture of sobriety. People can be addicted to many types of opiates that may not be just alcohol or drug.

Forms of religion, ideologies, philosophies and our own imagination including what is called sin can all be sources of addictions which is why the Bible also talk about sobriety.[2].

More about 12 steps

A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles which include spiritual principles outlining a course of physical action for tackling the deeper problems related to addiction to the ideologies of the world.

These 12 steps and traditions and the Steps we outline for seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness can be useful for the individual congregant and the free assemblies of Christ as they strive and persevere to sit down in the Tens as Christ commanded.

Any behavior that is detrimental that we continue to return to is the result of some form of a compulsive addiction that may be the result of a deeper trauma or problems stemming from the Shadow Consciousness of the mind.

Together

Because these steps required group effort there was also The Twelve Traditions[3] accompany the Twelve steps to supply some form of self governance within chapters through a common union and discipline.

A key element to success is Sponsorship. A sponsor's job is to care about someone else more than himself. Becoming a sponsor is a step toward the kingdom which requires patience and love, sacrifice and charity. A sponsor may be a more experienced person aiding in recovery who humbly guides the aspirant[4] of sobriety in the ways of the twelve steps.

The recovery process deals with many areas and problems which confront us in this life process. Whether it is compulsive behaviors like eating, dieting, cleaning, accounting or hoarding, or distractibility like hyperactivity, mania, or hypo-mania, irritability, panic attacks, psychosomatic illnesses, or other dysfunctional compulsions like depression, lack of motivation and laziness, bipolar tendencies, poor impulse control, procrastination, or even abusive behavior of others or self-injury and suicide attempts.

These same traits can be identified with terms like sloth and apathy, unforgiveness and anger, judgment and pride, fear and lust, wantonness and greed. In all these negative virtue conditions there must be a comprehensive approach that addresses physical, mental, emotional, as well as spiritual states that are in the present or rooted in the past.

The steps must help you go deeper in yourself and come face to face with the truth about yourself and the demons who keep you from finding your way out of the darkness. It may be important in this process to be regularly reassured that you are not alone in this journey of the mind and body and soul.

Not forsaking the assembling[5] of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

National Addiction

By listing off these aberrant behaviors we disassociate ourselves with the common problems of society which can cause whole nations to follow compulsive patterns of distraction, dysfunction and even destructive and self-destructive behaviors.

Can an entire nation of people become addicted to a compulsive way of seeing and thinking that causes it to self-destruct? History tells us that they do just exactly that.

Babylon, Israel, Greeks and Romans all brought about their own destruction by following social patterns that caused their own decline and fall. They eventually clamored and defended the conditions that were destroying them and were willing to murder anyone who offered them an alternative.

According to Plutarch, Polybius, John the Baptist, Christ and many others, including Paul the Apostle; the greatest destroyers of society are the Benefactors who exercise authority and our appetite for their benefits. Eating at the tables of rulers has become addicting and we have become Aid Addicts.

There are lots of audio files and articles that deal with some of the Mysteries including the Mysteries of the Universe‏‎, like what is the "Mark of the Beast"? What is Mystery Babylon? What was the early Church doing? What is Pure Religion? And what is te answer to many other Questions?

Mysteries

The appearance of the word "mysteries" in the New Testament is consistently translated from musterion[6] some 27 times.[7]

We first see it used in Matthew 13:11 and Mark 4:11 and Luke 8:10 reference to "the mysteries <3466> of the kingdom of heaven" that was not given to the people in general and certainly not at that time which is why Jesus often spoke in parables.

The "all things" of Mark 4:34 are called by Matthew the "mysteries of the kingdom of heaven".

To understand why some received extra tutelage by Christ in Matthew 13:11 you may need to ask why parables?[8] the answer was and is some hate the light. They imagine they are Born again but are still workers of iniquity because the hate the light which we see by their [covetous practices]].

The Dendritic tree of our mind is not the source of understanding the "the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven" but the tree of Life which is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes to us if we will be still and know that we are not God but He is.

In Romans 11:25 Paul wants us to be aware of something which seemed to be a mystery to Israel that they would be "be cut off" if they did not "continue in his goodness" and would only be grafted in if they "abide not still in unbelief".

In Romans 16:25 Paul says "the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began" but is now "made manifest"[9] not by Flesh and blood but by revelation.

In 1 Corinthians 2:7 talks about "the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom" and that " Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." And those that love him would only know by the revelation of the Holy Spirit.[10] But only if we reject the Spirit of the world.[11]

In 1 Corinthians 4:1 Paul is encouraging the people to look for what they know in their hearts by revelation in the stewardship of their ministers much as we see in Titus and Timothy.[12]

Understanding these mysteries does not seem to be as important as charity which is a mystery to many in itself.[13] It is only by the Spirit that one should know these mysteries[14] Yet Paul teases the people by revealing a mystery with another encrypted mystery[15]

The Mystery of God is revealed in the heart of everyman according to His will.[16] through revelation[17]

It is not private interpretation[18] shared by the Flesh and blood man or teacher that gives us true Fellowship[19]

When Paul talks about a "great mystery" related to the love of Husband and Wife he talks about the call of the ministers of the Church by Christ.[20]

We may try to share that which is revealed by speaking to others[21] but the Spirit is the granter of faith.

It is only by that revelation that God reveals His mysteries[22] through their hearts in love [23]for God and one another.

There is also the "mystery of iniquity"[24] which shall also be revealed.

The "mystery of faith" is the pure conscience that comes with revelation of the Spirit.[25]

Revelation 1:20 The mystery <3466> of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
Revelation 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery <3466> of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
Revelation 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY <3466>, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Revelation 17:7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery <3466> of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

To repent and seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness includes a changing of the mind.

  • "For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace." Romans 8:6

Evidently man has two minds, carnal and spiritual. There is also the subconscious and the conscious mind. The Pharisees were called bind guides but Christ not only gave sight, the Holy Spirit gave us insight.

The ministers of the Church established by Jesus who was the Christ and king of the kingdom of God were trained for their job as ministers of His Church to help the people. Repentance is about changing the mind. Yet Jesus warns the Pharisees that they are "bind guides".[26]

Paul talks about "their minds were blinded"[27] the "renewing of your mind" by being "transformed".

  • "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2

So the mind can be deceived and we must allow God to write upon it. We know that the practices and thinking of the people can keep the Holy Spirit out of our lives and we also know that Peter, Paul, James, and John warned us that we would need to examine our minds and check our faith.

What is God and what is our own flesh, fears and foolish emotions?

  • "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." Romans 8:5

The ability of the mind to change is called Neuroplasticity.

  • Neuroplasticity: The brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment.
What can we learn about our brains if we choose to respect and indulge in our neurobiology? Dr Sarah McKay talks about resistance and benefits to resting quietly for 15 to 20 minutes. Is there something to learn between waking and sleeping, between consciousness and unconsciousness? Time 14:02

    2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
    3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
    4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
    5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
    6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
    7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
    8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
    9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
    10. Continued to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety <sophrosune>.
  3. The Twelve Traditions
    1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon AA unity.
    2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority—a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
    3. The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking.
    4. Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or AA as a whole.
    5. Each group has but one primary purpose—to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
    6. An AA group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the AA name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.
    7. Every AA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
    8. Alcoholics Anonymous should remain forever non-professional, but our service centers may employ special workers.
    9. AA, as such, ought never be organized; but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve.
    10. Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy.
    11. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always to maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films.
    12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.
  4. A disciple, aspirant, student or even Padawan is someone striving to learn (a term from Star Wars identifying a Jedi in Training who is a Force-sensitive adolescent).
