Author and clinical psychologist Bruce Levine sits down with Open Paradigm to discuss society's relationship to drugs, psychiatry's increasing credibility issue, and the cultural response to incidents of mass violence. Time 9:16

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is from the Greek roots schizo (split) and phrene (mind) to describe the fragmented thinking that produces certain issues in people.

Schizophrenia includes all these subtypes: catatonic, disorganized, paranoid, residual, and undifferentiated. To be diagnosed with schizophrenia, you have to have at least two of these symptoms for at least 6 months. One of them must be hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized speech.

Anthropologists and cross-cultural psychiatrists argue the point that mental illnesses are not discrete entities like the polio virus with their own natural histories.

Schizophrenic
  1. Psychiatry.. Also called dementia praecox. a severe mental disorder characterized by some, but not necessarily all, of the following features: emotional blunting, intellectual deterioration, social isolation, disorganized speech and behavior, delusions, and hallucinations.
  2. a state characterized by the coexistence of contradictory or incompatible elements.

There may be other symptoms, problems, and conflicts that can be and should be considered when seeking any resolution of problems related to the mind.

"Depression, anxiety disorders, including paranoia, phobias, PTSD, panic attacks, bipolar behaviors, or even schizophrenia or obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) all include elements of "cognitive dissonance". Resolving the conflicts may alleviate the side effects to mental conflict like depression and other symptoms."

Getting better

Schizophrenia may not be a problem but a talent? Living with division.

People are healing from incurables like schizophrenia, autism and cancer because they are learning to trust and love one another as themselves.

Schizophrenia includes elements of a mental “split off” but is not Multiple personality issue. Most people with schizophrenia are neither violent nor a danger to others. The outlook for schizophrenia is not hopeless and can be completely removed from individuals who are willing and wanting to pursue the challenge of schizophrenia issues.

Voices

Description_The Voices in My Head]- Eleanor Longden -TED Talks__14:___Time

People WHO HEAR VOICES ARE NOT CRAZY. They just hear voices...

There can be lots of reason for this. Most of them have to do with trauma. That trauma can be emotional, physical, or spirtitual.

But what is trauma to one person is not trauma to the next.

Trauma can be the result of sensitivity, either mental or spiritual or both. We can heal from trauma through a pursuit of virtue but we may need help to learn what to do and how to do it.

Meditation

As ministers we are often "traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind" and spirit.

Meditation is a way of waiting upon the creative comforter of God the creater in prayer and hope. Fasting and prayer within the daily pause of meditation allows your body to reset. The life of Christ which is a life of service guides that restarting process in The Way.

There are people dealing with Schizophrenia without drugs but using a method of trust and love and understanding.

Hearing Voices USA have Facilitator Training: This multi-day training (minimum of 24 hours) will cover all material addressed in the other trainings, and will prepare individuals to begin facilitating Hearing Voices groups.
