Brookings Institute How robotics will affect the availability of employment and social benefits. Published on Oct 27, 2015. On October 26, the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings hosted a forum to explore the impact of robots, artificial intelligence, and machine learning on the workforce and the provision of benefits traditionally supplied by—or in conjunction with—employers. 1:28:33
The word brooking is the present participle of the word brook.

It means "allowing or putting up with" something.

A lie is "an intentionally false statement" or "used with reference to a situation involving deception or founded on a mistaken impression."

Robotic Effects

The Brookings Institute[1] asked the question, "How will robotics affect the availability of employment and social benefits within society?"

The question is not what changes will be caused with the increase of robots but what happens when we become robots. Or have we already been assimilated? A robot is "a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable...(especially in science fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically." synonyms:

automaton, android, golem; More used to refer to a person who behaves in a mechanical or unemotional manner."
"from Czech, from robota ‘forced labor.’"

Are we becoming robots by removing the elements of individual compassion and love for one another as an element and a factor in our daily choices within the natural functions of society?

Some used to hold the truth that we are endowed by a creator with certain unalienable rights as self evident, but in a collective those rights become subject to the will of the whole.

In the video the Brookings Institute gathered sharp, successful individuals[2] who suggested that in the future over ¼ of males will be unemployed and a 1/3 of jobs will be in health care.

I was shocked that such seemingly intelligent men had come to such foolish conclusions as to what the best course for society would be. I am sure if you asked them they would say "We only wish to raise the quality of life for all species." [3]

Even though they seem to be capitalists they also seem to think that socialism is a good thing.

Can Capitalism and Socialism actually be compatible?

Socialism is simply defined as a "political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

Its synonyms are listed as: leftism, welfarism, radicalism, progressivism, social democracy; communism, Marxism, etc..

So what is capitalism? Capitalism is simply "an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals..."

Capitalism is neither a political theory or system nor is it a social organization. Since all means of production begins first with the individual Capitalism is merely all systems that respect the right of the individual to invest in what he chooses and own what he produces for the purposes of either distribution or exchange.

Socialism gives those powers of choice to the collective.

These two systems are opposed to each other by definition alone.

The first thing we have to invest is our own labor and our own minds. Socialism is the assimilation of our natural right to the production of our minds and our labor into the hands of the collective state.

Are you or have you been assimilated?

We must decide what kind of society we will be or someone else will decide it for us.

Robot thinking

At one point in the video it was suggested that the passing of Social Security Act back in 1933 created a more robust society "keeping people out of cardboard boxes".

There are still many people living in cardboard boxes and many more people that would have no other alternative because of the political and economic system during the period of Social Security and the Welfare state. There were not all that many people living in cardboard boxes nor starving in the ditch before Social Security.

Federal Reserve: Socialism As Dreamed of by Karl Marx[4] 5:52

There was the depression but that was artificially induced by a manipulated money supply. The Federal Reserve is a socialist financial system advocated by men who liked Karl Marx. Even Bernie Sanders calls the Federal Reserve "Socialism for the Rich" and it was the withdrawal of credit by the Federal reserve that caused the depression.

Actually they idea that Social Security saved the poor is a fantasy. The side effects of that socialist program of Social Security and its bankruptcy has brought the entire nation to a state of financial and even moral collapse that has not been seen since the fall of the Roman Empire.

Before Social Security and the Great Depression, the care of the poor including the elderly was a responsibility assumed primarily by the family or the extended family. But when families were unable to help there were friends and neighbors. Beyond that there were also Churches and even organized private charity.

All levels of government welfare together amounted to less than $200 million before Social Security while private philanthropy was estimated to exceed a billion dollars[5] not counting the family and friends which were the first line of defense in issues regarding social welfare. This gave an obvious incentive for individuals to cultivate and mend breaches both in families and friendships. Social Virtues were naturally required for anyone and everyone that had hope of relief in time of need.

The payroll tax has substantially increased but an investment in a 1-year United States Treasury securities would have returned more than Social Security payments. If you had invested the same amount in 6-month CDs at actual market rates the return would even have been greater. All this would have given more incentive to savings, and if you died before collecting them the funds would have reverted to the family through inheritance.

"Experts across a wide spectrum of political opinion now concede that Social Security's retirement program provides a poor return for a lifetime of tax payments..." The Heritage Foundation
"What if the payroll taxes were invested in domestic stocks, the S&P 500 at the actual market return over the 46-year period? The earner would have accumulated $695,303, from which he could draw a monthly income of $2,897. This is two and a half times the Social Security monthly income." http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2011/03/the_social_security_trap.html The Social Security Trap, By Fred N. Sauer]

The real cost to society of systems like Social Security is hidden in the heart of society and the natural bands that keep free societies healthy and functioning.

Ultimately the first line of defense for society besides providing for yourself, which not everyone would do successfully, is the family and then friends. There has always been a natural incentive built into society to see to the prosperity of our family and friends and our community as a whole. The extended family and immediate community members would be worth investing into again if we would just return to those natural bands that have held societies together for millenniums.

A question arose during the conference "Are there Ways to encourage voluntarism?"

The truth is that Social Security, which is Socialism, by its very nature discourages voluntarism which had been predominant in Pre-Social Security America. Socialism dissolves the natural bands which connected the people in the once free American society.

GBI VS. GBC

Where are cyborg programmed?

Instead of seeing that Socialism strangles voluntarism and incentive the speakers are suggesting to go from bad to worse, to ramp up the socialist state.

They advocate a Guaranteed Basic Income for individuals saying this gives the people individual bargaining power. What it does is empowers the collective to coerce what should have been charity in society.

Guaranteed Basic Income vs. Guaranteed Basic Coercion of our neighbor

In college and in the world these people were convinced that socialism is good because the end justifies the means but what is the end of years of socialism.

The question begs to be asked if you do not trust people to voluntarily help one another with charity and love, honor and compassion then why do you trust the idea of giving control of the "means of production, distribution, and exchange" into the hands of rulers and bureaucracies?

What is in place to regulate the rulers and bureaucrats?

Socialism as a "political and economic" system requires that the people give power to the state to take away from those who have to give to those who think they do not have enough. It is rooted in coveting your neighbor's goods and possessions for your personal benefit. The men who exercise force to redistribute the wealth of that "political and economic" system call themselves Benefactors.

Benjamin Franklin warned emphatically that “When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” He understood that a “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!”

The bonds of society are the benefits of society because we are drawn to that which works for us. Man would by nature be a selfish animal but the generation factor awakens compassion which is one of the few noble qualities of the character of mankind.

We often learn to love one another in the reproduction of the next generation. We learn to sacrifice for our children which develops Social Virtues. The bonds of friendship also come from our sacrifice for one another and naturally those bonds will be extended to the next generation.

The "Rewards" of society cannot come from a bureaucracy of coercion they are void of charity and love. They do not foster compassion in the individual but rather greed and avarice. It is noble to think that people with a guaranteed income will choose to use their time to promote the greater good but that is naive and history does not verify such a theory of wishful thinking.

The deer does not run fast because he practices in his spare time. He runs to survive the predators of nature. Take away the predator and the natural incentive dissipates along with the deer's abilities.

Socialism voids the natural motivation of society. So the answer to the questions " Are there Ways to encourage voluntarism?" is found in nature.

Milton Friedman - Donahue interview clip 2:30 minutes see Roots of the Welfare State.

The reward of society must come from the market place and Charity, not the coercive state.

Charity can only come from the heart through sacrifice in hope of reciprocation in time of need. Without the regular practice of voluntary charity there shall be no free society.

The charitable conduct of America was part of the essential character of America that was a critical element in its success and achievements.

They spoke of the lack of profit in things like poetry which they imagine would increase with a guaranteed income. Quite the opposite would likely occur. Struggle gives the poet something to write about. It gives him the compassion and passion necessary for his craft.

Look at YouTube or Wikipedia or the phenomena of Open Source technologies. People share without profit motivation. How many people have made videos and put them on YouTube that shows how to repair or make something with nothing but the desire to share.

They also talked about the fact that a Barista at Starbucks- auto manufacturer employee.

But to unnaturally impose by government force a uniform wage to all endeavors, stabs at the heart of incentive and individual initiative.

Venice Beach. Giving unwisely weakens the poor. "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy." Ezekiel 16:49 ~5:57 min

To just give money without strings may work in Liberia where the struggle to survive has been with the people since birth but the same concept does not necessarily work well in Venice Beach.

To reward individual initiative INDIVIDUALLY means the power of choice must remain in the hands of the individuals of society and not in the hands of professional bureaucrats.

Coercion vs. choice

A free society must have the patience of allowing the individual to choose and fall and rise again. You cannot remove the consequences of choice. If society tries it may only delay the inevitable repercussions of sloth and avarice. The use of coercion rather than charity and voluntarism will ultimately create a beast in and of society that will devour the people where it once only nibbled.

Socialism by its nature requires that you are willing to take a bite out of one another. In the coercive society you do not get to decide nor do you have to decide who and how much to help. In such societies the Social Virtues sufferers and the Hue and cry of society are heard no more.

There will be exceptions but virtue should not be the exception in society. It must be the rule. Each individual must be ruled by the righteous virtues of society. The practice of charity is an investment in society which makes us a part of that society in intimate ways that no social scheme of coerced contributions can do.

One spokesman said they did not like the drive up window where you ordered over a mike but preferred a touchscreen which would be more efficient. But the touch screen is void of the human element. That individual taking your order is a real person with a real life and for a brief moment you are connected in an enterprise of desire and fulfillment. Your relationship for those few minutes may be reduced to mere purchase but that is your choice. the way you interact may leave them with a smile or not.

This is within in your power but you need faith to act, to be a doer.

An entrepreneur is "a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so." (from French, from entreprendre ‘undertake’. (see enterprise)).

The word enterprise means "a project or undertaking, typically one that is difficult or requires effort. a business or company."

A free society is a company of individuals who not only want the right to choose, liberty, but desire to grant the right to choose to all members of society. Here is an original idea. Why do we not "Let the people individually DECIDE WHAT KIND OF SOCIETY they want?"

Within the nation all those who want a socialist system may sign up for it and pay into it but all those who want to be free to decide individually will gather in Free Assemblies.

With the power to decide comes the responsibility to decide, but the more you invest in your society the more you invest in the hope of freedom.

Private welfare vs. Public Welfare

Religion redefined.

Tesla car learning and teaching every car by feedback from every car... ???about robot overlords

The talked of liquid democracy.... direct democracy... among people who only have compassion for SELF-ADMINISTERED benefits They want to encourage volunteerism and expand our desire to volunteer when the very thing that encourage volunteerism is choice and no reward if you choose not to volunteer.

Go back to when all charity was charity. All aid was the result of charity

-REMOVE coercion–

Return choice to people and you have much less to vote on...

I would speculate that with all their education they do not know the difference between a Democracy and a Republic.

I was amazed to hear that I-phone was publicly funded but profits were private...

We need to realize that gov’s don’t use their own money... I am always amazed at people who believe in evolution also believe in socialism and a controlled market.

They even wanted to allow former drivers replaced by robots to own the means of productions run by the robot. Why not let people own themselves for every man is the means of production.

He wrote in his own 1912 book, "Philip Dru: Administrator," that he was working for "Socialism as dreamed of by Karl Marx." He later founded the Council on Foreign Relations. When the Senate said NO to the League of Nations that he and Wilson promoted, House decided to form an organization to persuade the American people to want World Government. They were successful and the United States later joined the United Nations, which is laying the foundations for World Government.
