Time and time again, we see this word hupomeno, commonly translated endure, promoted by Christ and the apostles.[2]
The Greek word hupomeno is composed of the preposition hupo[3] and the verb meno which Jesus also uses in His doctrines like we see in John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth[4] unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."
This Greek word meno appears many times in the text commonly translated abide, remain, dwell, or continue.[5]
Other words like anechomai meaning to hold up or phero meaning to carry are also translated endure. And then there is the word kartereo meaning to be steadfast
There can be no doubt that the Gospel preached by Christ requires that you be steadfast and endure [6] in your seeking the kingdom of God, but many fall away from loving God and loving their neighbor as themselves. We must guard against impatience and pride, instead walking in forgiveness and humility.
